Wiki Awards

It is not easy to conduct original research or make valuable contributions to a wiki. I know a few people will put in the most effort and make the best contributions. I want to reward these people.

A similar system is used in rewarding professors within the College of Business. Professors who make significant contributions to our society's body of knowledge through their research are well rewarded: they get promoted, tenured, and earn a higher salary than professors who do less research.

So along these lines, I want to select at least ten students to receive a Wiki Award. I want to leave the actual number of awards open-ended, because I want to make sure top-quality work is rewarded. Thus, I would be thrilled to find that I conclude a third of the class should receive a wiki award, but I will admit that seems somewhat unlikely.

Each Wiki Award recipient will receive a letter grade boost in their final grade in BA271. Thus, if a recipient would otherwise have received a C+, the revised grade would be a B+. Undoubtedly some award recipients will already have earned at least a B. If so, these recipients will earn an A in the course overall. (Note: the university does not allow anyone to earn an A+.)

Nominations

I want some help to guide my thinking about who should receive a wiki award. I also want to encourage everyone to participate in the social activity of providing a nomination.

To make this easier, I built a simple on-line survey to collect nominations. Anyone can earn five points for taking the time to follow this link and submit a nomination. The nomination process opened when I built the survey on March 6th. It will close on March 17th at noon.

Aakerj This person made contributions to Sportiki, a Sports related Wiki (something I was looking for when I was making my own wiki contributions). They made his own Sacramento Kings page with a roster, some team information, and a remaining schedule for this season. They took a public web page about the Sacremento Kings that only contained a logo, and added reasonably substantial information that someone who is a Kings fan could benefit from.
Aakerj This personā€™s contributions include building a wiki page for sportiki.com. The page that was made included information about the Sacramento Kings, including their team info, roster and schedule. As a sports fan I thought it was great to know of this new site. I think it a great place for people to speak their minds about their favorite team.
Adamsg This person made substantial contributions to the Linn-Benton Community College wiki page. He added driving directions from several locations as well as links to maps. He added a lot of information regarding extended compus, financial aid, and much more. His contributions are very informative and would be very helpful for persons who are not familiar with Linn-Benton Community College. He has made the page much more beneficial to viewers since he has begun editing it.
Alkhawas This person started with a vague wiki plan and did a lot of great revising which made their contributions helpful. This person also listened to the mentoring ideas and added huge section about the education system in Saudi Arabi. It is obvious to me that they understand and appreciate the importance of the wiki. This information is essential in helping Americans understand the Saudi Arabian culture, and gives great insight in the education system and economics of the country to show us why they are the way they are. This information is priceless and I really appreciate he/she for sharing some of their life experience with everyone.
Alkhawas He added to the Crater Lake National Park page on WikiTravel and wrote a massive essay about his education in Saudi Arabia. I wanted to nominate alkhawas because I feel he added a great deal of original information. This is not information that he read someplace else and change a few words to make it legal. He put a lot of time and thought into his essay and I feel that deserves an award more so then how useful this information is to others.
Alkhawas Added useful information to the Craler Lake National Park section of WikiTravel. Also, she added some tips for success to the Ba271 wiki. And, then she responded to her mentor's advice and added information about Saudi Arabia's education and other general infor about Saudi Arabia in the Saudi Arabia section of WikiTravel. The perspective that she gives to the websites is differnet from others because she is giving information to Americans about Saudi Arabia as a Saudi. She also had useful tips in the tips for success and added real value to the Crater Lake page. She put a lot of effort into the wiki section of this class and spent a lot of time doing her best work out of integrity and not for the points.
andestev This person's contributions include providing links to various pictures, sites, and destinations on the island of Oahu. These contributions will take place on the wikitravel which is could use a lot more information on many regions around the world. I fee this person derserves an award because they branched away from the BA271 wiki for one, and they also added much needed informantion to the travel wiki. I love to travel so this is right up my ally. The more info the better.
andestev Made contributions to Kailua, Hawaii. This person also edited numerous other pages in Ba 271 wiki page and Travel Wiki.Editions made to Music Page, Natural Vibrations, Reggae, Tupac Shakur, Notorious Big, Night life, Coffe Shop and lott's of others. Well, this person provide a lott of valuable informations abot Kailua, Hawaii. It is hard to pick most valuable contribution because this person did a loot of editing to many pages and improved a lott of existing pageg.
armatast She made a page insider the ba271 wiki about the Westminster Dog show. I think that even though this page doesn't really have much to do with ba271, she spent a lot of time adding content to this page so that other might have a better appreciate and knowledge about the Westminster Dog show.
Bealska This person has made a a wiki page all about study abroad. This person has given many useful tips on things to do when studying abroad. This person put a lot of time into their page, and it seems that it would be very useful to students considering traveling abroad, or who are planning to travel abroad.
beuglir He has a great find here. Beuglir found something he was interested in that was underdeveloped and in need of some information he was capable of giving. This Wiki was very young. I think the contributor had a good opening to make a change in the material. I think the site in the beginning was a very brief. It will be much more extensive now because of the additions to the biography as well as short cuts to certain aspects of the biography. I think the links provided for the other two sections are clearly marked and easy to use. I think that these links will make it easier for people to take more direct routes to where they want to go with this site. For example, before they had to go through a lot of additional information in order to get to the lyrics of a song or a place to buy. This was due in large part to the objective nature of the site and its inability to show itself like a press release. These barriers were circumvented by putting the links to these valuable resources instead of trying to import the material. It looks like he tried to do that in the beginning but some body called him on it. Overall I think it is a great contribution that will prove effective at getting more people to use the site because of its new shortcuts to desired information.
brennemr They have turned a nonexistent Sisters Oregon page into some really usefull information These contributions give someone new to the area a good idea of what to encounter when they travel to Sisters. It also gives good information as to where to stay and what to do.
casmc308 I feel that this person contributed greatly to the wikitravel in areas of dining and also added new ideas into the business college courses. I also feel that this person's work cannot be seen easily by others unless they actually visit the sites this person worked on that is why I am nominating them based on their contributions. The value of this person's contributions are tremendous. They started the idea of adding feedback and overview of teachers who teach business classes and offer their opinion on how the course went and how the teachers teach. They also added in several different restaurants to the WikiTravel and organized the restaurant sections to make it easier to decide on which restaurant would most fit a person's taste.
chridavi The wiki contributions are short and sweet. I think this person did what they could and adjusted to a changing schedual.
Culmannc They contributed a great deal of quality material to both the BA271 wiki along with WikiTravel, and I feel that their work should be awarded. I don't feel like to many other people have given the same quality of contributions. This individual worked hard and it shows.
Culmannc This person contributed a great deal to the BA271 wiki to help others understand Power Point. They also added information about how to buy and sell books at Amazon.com which was really helpful and they described why we should do therefore, they took something we learned in class and shared it with others in the world. They also added some interesting facts about Gresham, OR to the wikitravel cite page and places to eat in Gresham. This person also described why a person should come to Corvallis and then why they would need a place to stay and conveniently listed hotels in the Corvallis area with addresses and phone numbers. Her biggest contribution was to Amazon.com wiki in describing why we should buy and sell books online. It added a great deal of knowledge to the world and could easily give some insight and help into buying and selling books. It added value to the site and could add value (literally!) to someone's life.
culmannc They have done a number of contributions to the BA271 wiki as well as wikitravel.com. The majority of the contributions were to wikitravel where they added to the corvallis page. They also created a Gresham, OR page and added tons of good information to it (shopping, eating, recreation, etc.). They have explained in detail aspects of the two citys, Corvallis and Gresham, including important information such as phone numbers to hotels. They have made it easy to see some good quick information on the two cities.
Culmannc This person has made several wiki contributions in different areas. A few ideas include explaining how to use microsoft powerpoint, information about Gresham, Oregon on the wiki travel page, and how someone can transfer to Oregon State. This person contributions gave ideas about how to more easily use microsoft powerpoint and amazon.com. The contributions including information about Gresham are great for anyone who is in the area. By viewing this information, anyone visiting Gresham will have no trouble staying busy.
Culmannc This person made really great and detailed contributions to three different wiki websites, including a wikipedia.com OSU transfer page, wikipedia.com How to buy and sell books online page, and to the OSU Ba271 wiki on how to operate powerpoint. I think that these contributions are very easy to read and helpful, which is very important in editing wikis. This person's wiki contributions were incredibly valuable to a publicly available wiki because he/she not only added helpful information, but he/she created all new wiki pages with tons of helpful information on them.
cutterd   This person's contributions are valuable to other students who are really interested in wiki's. Has created a page for BA407 and advising for creating a wiki. All of his contributions are valuable to business major students.
Cutterd This person has made a lot of contributions to our BA271 Wiki. He made a "Good and Bad" wiki page that lets users describe if they like using the wiki or not. He has also made a "moving beyond ba271" page, but has not added any content quite yet to this page. He also created a proposal for a wiki for ba407. I feel this person has added a lot of useful information and pages to our ba271 wiki. I feel they have put the time and effort into thinking and creating some useful parts of our wiki that were not there before. The pages that were added will give us, as students, the ability to edit this and help out other students in the future to understand how to correctly use a wiki.
Cwiklime This person has gone above and beyond the call of the wiki contributions. They have added several areas to the wiki not to mention help with the BA271 Wiki. It seems there main concern was to fix problems that arose in others wikis and existing ones. This person has also made an enormous contribution to help people with the BA271 course with helpful Access notes and tips to succeed in the class. I think that this person shows a great deal of knowledge through the information that they have put into the wiki. Not only did this person make the wiki more understandable, but also helped many others make corrections to their own wikis. From reading over this wiki, this person has given others more insight to develop wikis greater and more efficiently.
Dahlquie The contributions this person has made have been very tedious. Although they were more just simply making a page about a certain artist, and only providing a link to the artist's home page. They have also made pages about some football atheletes. The list of contributions they have made just goes on and on Honestly, they're contributions realistically have not added any value, but with how much they have contributed is very impressive. They have spent much time editing pages, including their own.
dalhquie The amount of quality contributions made by this person goes to show that he put in a lot of time that deserves to be rewarded. I feel that this person did quite a bit of extra work to both the BA271 wiki and wikiquote, the quality of which is very useful to the wikis. This person definitely deserves to be rewarded for their extra work. This person added numerous quotes to wikiquote as well as filled out the usertalk page. All the information added by this person is useful to some people while others, still may not find a use for it, but they would appreciate the availability of this information.
degarmom they entered a whole bunch of info about the gymastic, basketball, and football teams. gave lots of info about diff sports you can watch or join.
Emmertd   They have done an large amount of original work.
Emmertd He/She created their very wiki that describes how to create your own wiki that I my actual use to help create my own wiki. Also included some Access questions and tips. With the contributions this person made, people like me know how to go about creating my own wiki and I was able to learn some tips about Microsoft Access. Really went beyond the assignment and I feel deserves recognition.
emmertd This person has actually helped us figure out how to create our own wiki if we wanted to and has created their own wiki! They are using their wiki for their personal business. What a business student. I feel that since we are learning all about wikis, it is an excellent idea to be able to know how to make our own wikis if we choose. emmertd did a very nice jb doing this. i just hope he expands on his new found wiki!
Emmertd This person created their own wiki for their business. They also created a part of our wiki explaining how to start a wiki. And they made some add ins to the help and tips pages. I think that creating your own wiki is definalty adding value to a wiki. And showing everyone on our class wiki how to start a wiki will add alot of value to our wiki.
Emmertd Created own wiki, described how to make your own wiki and added information to the class wiki about access. I feel that this individual was very corageous in deciding to create their very own wiki rather than going off of something that has already be started. Also it is very helpful to see how to create your own wiki.
farricke For Wiki contributions: I have contributed a great deal to the page within the BA 271 of Pros and Cons of the Wiki. In addition to that, I actually stumbled across an article of where the future of Wikipedia is headed in and I decided to make this knowledge available for all to read. When I was glancing at other people's contributions I saw that a lot of them are not really helping the ba271 Wiki providing extensive material. A lot of people simply added artists to the music page in which they simply just would provide links to the artist's home page. I don't find that information relevant as I can do a search on google and get to their home page quicker than I could going through Wiki. I just wanted to give it a try submitting myself as a candidate because I did spend a lot of time researching my topic trying to get opinions on both sides of the Wiki
fastenas This person has been making small changes to the BA 271 Wiki, but has been working on improving the a wiki in Wiki Travel. He wants to let people know about his home town of Modesto, CA. He has been working hard these last couple weeks to improve his wiki contributions. This person wants people to know about his home town. If he keeps adding to this wiki then more people will be informed on wiki travel, and may start visiting Modesto. This could then improve tourism around and in the town.
fawlse Fawlse contributions to the Wiki are a seperate page for the indoor rock climbing center in Corvallis. The wiki page about the rock climbing center adds real value by letting the public have access to interesting activities in Corvallis and on campus. The page Fawlse created is well designed and has potential to be great. It also has all the informaiton needed for anyone who is interested in going to the rock climbing center.
garcijus describe his home town of boardman in detail. This person was able to add value because they describe the town of boardman in detail and what options you have when and if you perhaps to stop there. These contributions will allow the public to learn about this town and help decide if it is somewhere that they will ever want to visit.
GardnerB This person has spent quite a bit of time working on the "Picking the Right Wiki" Page. This page is a great resource for finding information about wikis. I would visit here to decide which wiki I would use if starting one myself.
gardnerb This person has made lots of contributions and some of them are even on the help page. They contributed to the help page, which shows that they are looking out for other classmates.
Gardnerb He has contributed to the BA 271 wiki, by giving information of how to pick the right wiki page and its advantages. Also, he has contributed to the OSU soccer team. I think this person's wiki contributions has been in good quality. He has given really good information about picking the right wiki page. Quality information and useful links. Also, the contributions to the OSU soccer team are really good. He has the advantage of being part of the team, so he can give information from the player's side. This information is very interesting for other people who are interested about OSU soccer.
gardnerb   In the "Picking the Right Wiki" page, user Gardnerb has posted many links to the different wiki types available. This gives other users chances to possibly look at the work others have done, and increase their contributions in this wiki or other wikis accordingly. These contributions not only run for this assignment, but could be a useful bulk of information for others.
gardnerb Gardnerb has made outstanding contributions to the Picking the Right Wiki Page. He talked about how you should go about choosing a wiki to use for the specific needs that you have. He also went beyond this and added information to various other pages such as the Mens Soccer Page, and information pertaining to this on Wikipedia. I think the contributions Gardnerb made are especially important to the 271 Wiki because of the lack of understanding that many people had over what Wikis are and how they should be used. Wikis are a relatively new thing, and they are something that everyone should learn how to use, but in order to use them properly, people need an understanding of the various types of Wikis and for what purposes they can be used. Gardnerb provided a wealth of information and links to many outside souces that make Wiki use much clearer.
Grantje This user has expanded a lot on the Sigma Alpha Epsilon page in the BA271 Wiki. It's evident that he really know the topic and that he spent a lot of time on it. He added a lot of information on activities such as Miss Minerva. All of his contributions help support his fraternity by giving readers a better understanding of its hierarchy and programs. Anyone interested in joining a fraternity can now receive information valuable to their choice. That is the point of most wikis. To get ideas and information to the people who can use it.
Grantje This person added their fraternity to the BA 271 Wiki Fraternities are a large part of Oregon State and it is important to be able to understand them. As someone outside of the Greek system it was nice to have an inside look at how they run, how they're governed, etc.
Gwinner Additions to almost every part of the wiki page making an unbelievable contribution. The content added was not available before and provides real concrete information.
Gwinnr This person has contributed to almost every wiki in some way or form. They seem to really know their stuff and have helped out tremendously This is very helpful because the user is basically checking others work and providing his/her input when they feel it is needed.
gwinnr This person made alot of contributions to the BA 271 wiki, and created a great my talk page. He posted alot of information concerning assignments and graded activities Well personally it helped me alot because i learned how to post a picture to a wiki. I think other people will benefit alot because of his contributions to graded activities.
gwinnr Added an entire section on tips and tricks for various things regarding wiki constructions and so forth. Added lengthy reviews and ideas on current and past homework. This person put in an unreal amount of useful content as far as the main Wiki site is concerned. Not only did the sheer volume of content impress me but its over a topic that i think is very valuable to those who are having problems, or missed something in classes and are looking for the tips and tricks.
Gwinnr Obviously this student has a real interest in Wiki's and has used that excitement to contribute in many ways. This student has made many revisions to other pages and sections and has also created their own topcis. Student has really invested time into learning how to operate Wiki's and make important and relevant contributions to the class. Provides good example of how to effectively use Wiki's. Easy to see how with the right time and motivation, contributions can be beneficial to others. Did not contribute in sheer volume only but in quality as well.
Gwinnr He created an amaing "My Talk" page. He also made edits to the comments page on the BA 271 Wiki. He edited the OSU Sports page of the BA 271 Wiki. He made edits to the Assignments Tricks and Tips page of the BA 271 Wiki. Edits to the Hi page. Edits to the Current Events page of the BA 271 Wiki. Edits to the Student Organization Page to the BA 271 Wiki. plus much, much more! He not only made lots of contributions, but the contributions he made were helpful to other students. He also edited mistakes that we made. He showed an interest in the same topics as myself when adding to the sports and students organizations pages.
gwinnr   I really liked his/her contribution because he/she actualy is fixing other peoples mistakes. Many of us type stuff out and don't even re-read it. Then other people read it and are either confused or feel the person who wrote it isnt that competent. Then somebody like this person comes along and fixes stuff so the writer doesnt have somebody making fun of them.
gwinnr This student has not only added content in various areas such as access help and graded assignments pages, but has edited and added links to various pages as well created a lot of useful information for students in BA 271. The additions and constant revisions of student help and assignment pages is a big help to the understanding of this class. It makes finding useful information easier to do without using the Access book or pestering the instructor.
gwinnr This person has been extensively involved in the wiki process. You has started many pages, helped students with theirs, researched wikis avaiable in other places, inserted images within the BA271 wiki, spoke about his wiki experience in fron of the class, and the list can go on and on. He has a great passion for wikis and it definitely shows. I believe this person has made an effort to make sure everyone understands all that he knows about wikis. He has researched outside the wiki to bring in different perspectives, has helped teach how to contruct wiki pages, and has made information available to all users. I don't know if there is anything that this individual has done that is not of value.
gwinnr This person has a very good my talk page where he has listed many of his contributions. He added comments page and many tips and help pages. He also did a lot of edited to not only the BA 271 Wiki but other public wikis as well. It has added value because he help others in the class but added help pages and pages to give you tips. They spent a lot of time trying to help others get through the class.
Gwinnr   Felt he contibuted a lot to the wiki. You could tell he did a lot of research in this area. The information he has in the wiki is useful to others and can help several people
Gwinnr This person has done a numerous amount of contributions, which mainly deals with fixing and editing other pages and creating help pages as well. Alot of his contributions contain adding things, fixing and correcting errors. Not only is this useful but very beneficial to any wiki to have someone work on and correct others work just incase of spelling errors or huge mishaps. These contributions really make what a wiki truely is, which is a community based website that is run by everyone to share. Overall his whole of contributions are stagering and this guy deserves an award
Gwinnr Gwinnr has made a very impressive amount of contributions to the BA271 wiki. He has started pages like the main Help page or Comments page and continued to add content to them. He has also fixed and edited contributions made to various pages. Gwinnr has also added links and generally kept the wiki very organized and updated. He has made a difference because he not only contributes with significance and value, but he also cares about wikis and demonstrates a great interest in them. Not everyone has the time or knowlegde to contribute in the way that Gwinnr has, but he has added value. Not only are his contributions numerous, they are creative, thoughtful and helpful to students in this class. He has made a great deal of information more readily available, easier to locate, and more understandable.
gwinnr This person started a great Help page and added content to it. They also fixed many different links for people and answered questions for people. They also added the comments page, edited several pages and added his thoughts and gave his advice on many tips and advice pages. When I first came into this class and we were talking about the wiki I went into the lab and explored it and found that it was very confusing. I think that when people take this much time and effort into organizing and editing pages and adding very helpful pages it will prove to be very useful for the future BA271 students.
gwinnr This person did a lot of contributions to various pages including his own user page, which looks very nice, since the beginning of the term. The important thing to note about his contributions is that he started his contribution so early in the term. This person seems to have taken wiki assignments very seriously and contributed to BA271 wiki page significantly. The person like him will be important to keep wiki pages updated.
gwinnr This person has made numerous contributions to the BA 271 Wiki. He has made numerous edits to various pages. He has also added information about the access assignments. His my talk page is very random but very interesting. You can tell that he has spent time adding and making the Wiki better. His contributions have been very helpful to me as well as other students. He also made many edits, this becomes very helpful. He also has informtation about Wikis in general. This was helpful for myself because I did not know much about a Wiki and had to learn a lot to complete this assignment.
gwinnr Started main help page, added content to help page, fixed links in pages for sports, he had done a ton of work, there is way more than i listed. This person has done so much to the BA 271 wiki. He has added to a ton on pages either by editing, adding new info. etc...
Gwinnr Added to virtually all sections of the wiki in some way or another and talked to the class about things he had found on other schools using wiki's. The contributions make a difference because they show real life ways that wiki's are being used and are more accurate due to research vs. opinion.
gwinnr   This person spent a lot of time and effort in contributing to the wiki project. I can tell that this person enjoyed what they were doing and put a lot of thought into it. This person did a good job at what they were doing.
Gwinnr This person did an outstanding job by contributing useful assignment tips for other BA 271 students. Not only this, but they made significant contributions in other areas, such as adding an "Excel" help section. This person's contributions will be a great deal of help to BA 271 students. The advice this person offers is very useful and constructive. The week-by-week format for following the class makes the page easy to comprehend. They contributed a lot of good, quality information, and did an overall outstanding job.
gwinnr Gwinnr has put a ton of good information into the BA 271 wiki, help page, assignment tips & tricks. He has also helped me with my own wiki. Mostly explained above, but I feel that he put out a lot of good information out on the BA 271 wiki that helps other students that arent quite sure how to do a certain part of a wiki.
gwinnr He has made a great page about himself. What he thought of the wiki, his current reading list and what his future plans are. He also told me that he created the help pages in the wiki, which I believe considering every time I ask him for help he is easily able to explain to me how to complete what I need to complete. Rod has not only created great wiki pages himself, but has helped me make mine good. His help pages and the fact that he is an open source of information is very nice and useful as well!!
gwinnr Thihs person has contributed by adding pages to the wiki. Made numerous commments and added much content to the wiki. Created the OSU sports page and has given corrected the assignments, tips and tricks. All of these contributions have been throughout the term. Well without these contributions we probably wouldn't have some of the pages we do. I feel that these changes made by gwinnr have let others expand on some of their ideas. This person also put time into the help and assingment page. This has been a big help to people who needed that extra help.
harringe expanded the recreational "Mt. Hood" website this person stuck with their wikiplan and made valuable contributions to the recreational Mt. Hood website, to help better inform visitors/travellers about the options available to them when visiting Mt. Hood.
Hayg This person made a great Advice for Success page for the BA271 wiki. They started with 10 tips on how to succeed in this class, and people have been constantly adding to it. This is a minor contribution, but something so simple, may be the MOST helpful tool for future students. I wish every course at the university had information and "secrets" like this posted on the internet. This person's contributions will be extremely helpful to all future students taking BA271. Although it is too late for us current students to use these great tips, hayg and other contributors are allowing other people to learn from our mistakes! If new students to this class are smart enough to navigate to the class wiki, then they will learn some valuable things before the class even starts!
Hickersc Carl created the Sports Page and was one of the few early contributers to the BA271 Wiki. Carl's use of Tables in creating the OSU Sports page set a very good example of how to construct an easy to read Wiki page.
hickersc This person put a lot of work in putting together an OSU sports page. It is set up nicely, which makes it easy to read and add new content. I feel that this person's wiki contributions have added value because there are alot of OSU sports teams that might not get that much support. Allowing people to post a schedule of events makes these sports programs more noticeable by the general public.
Hickersc This person started a sports page for our BA 271 class wiki. It includes a link to all the differnt sports teams at OSU, schedules, and scores and stats. I think that this is a valuable page for our class wiki because it is something that I strongly believe other students will be interested in and actuall use. I also think it is a page that other students will want to contribute to.
Hillsj This person added many good detailed advice to wikitravel, wikipedia, and wikibooks. They added good information that helped add to the usefullness of these wikis. This person helped add information about Gladstone, Oregon which is good to anyone that is traveling. They added information about a video game to a book wiki, which is helpful to anyone that wants to learn about how to do better in a Zelda game. Also added some valuable stratragy information about starcraft to help anyone that wants to play this game better. This person also added valuable information about his/her favorite golf course to a public wiki.

It provides potential travelers with information about the various places from someone who has been there first hand, plus it includes links to pictures.
kampm Kampm made a lot of contributions on our BA271 wiki. Especially, this person focused on helping other students by adding assignment tips. Also, Kampm made contribution on WikiTravel. Most contributions Kampm made are really help us how to complete our assignments. The reason why I want kampm to get wiki award is because kampm concentrated on helping other students with BA 271 assignments. Kampm's contribution is a lot better than those who made contribution entirly on their own interest.
kampm I know we are not supposed to nominate ourselves, but I feel as though I have contributed a great deal to the wiki and my wiki plan score did not reflect the amount and content of my wiki contributions. Throughout the term I have been making contributions to the course wiki consistently. I have created many of the lecture and lab pages meant to help students. The lab session contributions were more difficult because I had to create them at the same time I was trying to follow along in class and learn how to do what I was being asked to do. I also contributed to the tips and tricks area, the main page, and to wikitravel (an outside wiki). I feel that I have put in the time and effort to receive a wiki award. I created many of the lab session pages which helps all students whether they attend class or not. The contributions are complete, organized and contain a great deal of content and helpful information.

While there is lots of information on stuff to do in downtown portland, there is not a lot for the suburbs, which have equally fun places to visit and good places to eat. This might bring people to other parts of the Portland metro area, who are visiting, to places they would not normally go.
kimy5 This person contributed a significant amount of work to our BA271 Wiki. A questions page for wiki assignments and a feedback form were all created by this user. Also, made many miscellaneous contributions about Wiki to help others understand it better and learn from our mistakes. I am going to point out the feedback page this user made. I think this was a wonderful idea not only for students to get their questions answered but to help the professor improve lectures and lab sessions. This will give him an idea of where students are having the most difficulty.

kitzc Kitzc has done two major contributions to the BA 271 Wiki. They are both about surfing. One is a page that lists surfing terms and their meanings. The other contribution lists famous surfing spots around the world and describes them from kitzc's personal point of view. Kitzc's contributions are great for those interested in surfting because the describtions of famous surfing spots would be helpful in deciding where to plan a trip if one is interesed in going surfing. It's great how Kitzc lists if the location is better for beginners or those who are more advanced. I found the surfing terms page to be quite entertaining. I have never been surfing and it was fun to see what the lingo meant. This could also be helpful for those who are interested in learning to surf in that the person could learn the lingo and not feel so out of place among the other surfers.
Klausg I really liked the idea behind this persons wiki contribution. I liked idea of having a page where everybody could go and submit ideas on what to do in Corvallis in the warm weather. This person also made a lot of contributions on this topic that I found usefull and interesting. Because it is that time of the year where people are wanting to go outside and do stuff now that the weather is warm and it always seems like there is nothing to do, but really there is. I also think it is a good topic to build on.
Kocka This person added stuff on business classes, business professors, and movie reviews. This person contributed some comments above business professors that seemed to be quite interesting. These comments can help students prepare for certain teachers.
kondratn Even though this information may not be useful to some people, there is enough work put in here to see that this person spent a lot of extra time working on this wiki. With the links to other pages and the creation of a group on facebook, this person put in time and effort that I feel is worth being acknowledged. This person added quite a bit of information regarding the hobby of longboarding. Personally, I don't find this information useful but I know a lot of people who would. I appreciate, therefore, this person's efforts in creating a page that allows other longboarders to come to one place, get together and exchange information about where they might ride or different techniques. I feel that even though this information isn't necessarily valuable to me, it is to other people so it deserves to be rewarded.
kondratn The wiki contributions this person made has to do with long boarding, and although this may not directly apply to the BA 271 wiki, this would be an incredibly useful tool for an overall Oregon State Wiki. The information in this wiki so important for long boarders and overall for a students well being. I feel that this has added real value to a a publicly available wiki because the information that is presented is all applicable. Everything from safety to fun levels are so important for students and for long boarders alike. Other people will now not only have more pleasure in life, but also increased safety and an overall appreciation for alternative activities.
Krumbhow They have added many sections to existing wikis regarding greek life and music. The purposes of the wikis that were added to are fulfilled by these contributions, which add value to each one (a wiki without information is worthless). Hopefully the contributions will give more publicity to these two topics (Delta Sigma Phi (fraternity) and Matisyahu (band)).
krumbhow This person added some great additions to the wiki about his own interests, such as music and his newly constructed fraternity. I enjoyed reading his music contributions about the types of music he enjoyed which many were similar to what I listen to. Also he added a section about a fraternity new to OSU called delta sigma phi. The fraternity seems like it would be great experience especially since it is their first term at OSU. I feel that his addition to the wiki went far beyond an average contribution. I currently am in the process of joining the fraternity that he and others have just started this winter term. It give great opportunities for students to see what else is going on at OSU inside a class wiki.
krumbhow Wokker has edited the pages of the tips and tricks to a good extent. He also started a contributio about his newly started fraternity. He has helped all of us understand the horrible explained world of wiki. He has also enlightened us into what could be a potential powerhouse on campus.
Lamberty This person has consistently posted lab session notes, and added bits and pieces of information to the BA 271 Wiki as well, and also created pages for numerous clubs and organizations here on campus. Posting notes online from class sessions is very useful to students who may not be able to attend every single class period, but still wish to do well. I know that there are times when I have been too sick to attend, and having these notes posted on the Wiki would benefit me tremendously. I am glad to know, for future reference, that these alternative opportunities are available to me here, because of this student. Also, if I were to want any information about clubs to join here on campus, this would be a great place to do some research (The Blood Drive page is most noteable).

This person contributed on something that interests him and that he is passionate about, that says something. This is of use because now people can look and find information on the Blood Drive, Marketing Club, Tau Sigma National Honor Society, as well as additions to the misc. students page. Lee This person created the College of Business Courses Page in the BA 271 wiki. It is a page that has links to all the course websites, place for students to discuss the courses, and even tips on registaring. This was a great idea. It allow people who have taken a class inform other what is the best way to succeed.

This person has made a page that I feel would have been very beneficial to me as a freshman trying to register for my BA classes and any class for that matter. It is very informative and very useful.

This page is pretty extensive, and will allow students in the future to have a good resource for course information. Lewisr He went out and found a wiki that was about his interests(fishing) and put in his two cents. I really like how he found a wiki that most people wouldnt find. It was a smaller one that was very specific, not like wikipedia or wikitravel. He then created his own page and put the info he new about fishing.

Without someone watching out for spelling and other errors, the pages will begin to look like uneducated people were writing them and will lose credibility, even if the information is good and valid.
Lucesttia They have added to most of the lecture note pages and suggestions and tips. It is very helpful to have someone give input on the lectures since I am unable to attend those classes. It allows other students who have missed class to see what went on.

I think this person really understands what the wiki is about. This person's contributions are really in the spirit of the class wiki (improving it's collection of knowledge), and they added insights about places to eat and shop to the travel wiki which is what that wiki is all about.
Malcolmg The most significant contributions that I found on Malcolmg MyTalk page was about the Age of Mythology. They really provided detailed information and stratagies about the game that would help new players gain a better understanding of the basics. I also noticed that they provided much needed grammar and punctuation changes throughout the BA 271 Wiki page. There are also an addtion to a course H312 that provided detailed information about the course. As an individual who looks for other people's experience to gain a gereral idea of what to expect of things, I think Malcolmg did a great job of doing that. I really found great experienced through the H312 course that they added. This really give other students here on Oregon State University campus a better idea of what to expect when registering for a class. I think it was a great idea. Restaurant information and areas to visit are also very important when traveling. Tourist do not know all the tastey places to try and do not know where the recreational places are located. This could really help out visitors to their destinations.
Marticha This person included some really cool information about Cocos Island that I found to be rather helpful. I also liked the information she included about scuba diving, and where you can contact potential boat drivers, who can help beginners and individuals like myself who want to try it out for the first time. She also came up with a really cool idea for our Oregon State study abroad section, where she put together a feedback section where students who have studied abroad could share their experiences with nervous or timid people like myself, possibly in hopes of pushing us to give it a try. I believe that this person's input on wikitravel.com about Cocos Island, and the available scuba diving boat drivers and instructors would be valuable to anyone interested in the two. I know that I sure was interested in the scuba diving section, mainly because it isn't the easiest task to find people who can recommend good, experienced divers and instructors. I also think that her feedback form in our study abroad section will be incredibly helpful to anyone who wants to try studying abroad, but just can't seem to muster up the courage to do so. Maybe this feedback form could teach these students something that they don't know, but that would help them in the future feel a bit more comfortable giving the study abroad program a try.

Middaugr They have done extensive work on the help page for the ba271 wiki. As well as working to help others by suggesting ways they can improve what they are working on. They also started contributing in January, when a lot of people were not doing anything with wiki's. They are helping others to understand what the wiki can do. They have offered to help others via email as well as randomly going through and adding comments to others sections to help them.
mikamid He created very helpful page for students who take this class in the future and also created own wiki. It provides the course information about BA131. Because he added his own wiki. I think that creating own wiki spends more time than modifying. And organization is user friendly, easy to look at it.

I think he/she will be teaching a lot of people about this area of the world. I think it will make a big difference because it will give people a bit of a guide to Sherman County. They created the page and filled it full of important information. They also created a Garibaldi, OR page from scratch and filled that with good information on the city They have made some good contributions to wikitravel.com by adding two new pages (Lincoln city and Garibaldi).
Moorek3 The user has made many contributions to travel pages telling popular places to go. The person spent quite a bit of time revising pages and adding tidbits of information that visitors to the cities may find useful and make their trips more enjoyable.
moorek3 Moorek3 added quite a bit of detailed information about two different cities within Oregon. She did not just include a simple contributions, but did the majority of the contributions for both the cities. She included sleep, eat, get around, get out, do page, buy, see, and many others describing the cities itself. One reason I feel that Moorek3 added valuable information to the Wiki is that because they started the page from scratch and came up with great ideas to start with. It also felt like they had a personal touch to each of the cities like they have had previous experiences to them. For tourists to find more detailed information about cities they would like to visit I would highly recommend taking a look at these two pages on the Wiki
moorek3 Well I thought that all of the things that they added to the wikitravel pages was great. The two pages (lincoln city and garibaldi) that were started from scratch had a lot of great info and would be very helpful if you were traveling to those places. The pages that were made could be very helpful to anyone that was using them. I think that added to the travel page well and provide a lot of information.
Moorek3 Firstly, i apoloagize if i dont have this persons ONID id correct. i wasnt sure how to find that. To the contributions: this person made a significant amount of sueful contributions to wikitravel on the osu wiki. They provided a lot of useful information about the oregon coast. They offered facts, places to go, things to see, how to get there, and other similar things. I believe this person's contributions are relatively important to most oregonians since we all go to the oregon coast every now and then. I think that this person also provided good information for anyone wanting to go to the oregon coast to see new things and places. I also think the contributions they made are useful to non-oregonians who may be students at osu, aho maybe have never been to the oregon coast. All in all this persons contributions were quite useful.

Murrayco They are going to contribute alot about Osu Sports. They are adding stats for osu baseball and men's and women's basketball. Also their own personal organizations and add a page for their own favorite artists and groups. Another contribution is adding tips and knowledge for access assignments. Not only is this person adding a contribution to the wiki, but multiple contributions. This shows that the person cares enough to help others and to also improve the wiki value. This person wants others to be more involved and use the wiki as an everyday tool.

Olivejer This person plays golf for Oregon State, and has contributed all sorts of information about golf to wikis. They've been making a lot of minor edits to the golf section of wikipedia, as well as putting together a college golf page at wikipedia. They added a section on where an aspiring young golfer should decide to play, and made other contributions. I think this person's added real value to a wiki because being on the golf team they know what they're talking about. Anyone can just ramble about something they really don't know about, but if you're involved in college golf and are making contributions to golf pages I think it adds credibility to your information.
Phamthom Added to the class wiki a section for our websites. It will give other computer gamers a group to join and to compete and practice with.
phamthom I created a section on the BA271 website for students to create a link to thier website project. This allow students to see thier peer's work. I created my own Wiki using MediaWiki. The Wiki (MIpedia) is currently being hosted on my ONID account. I made most of the contribuations to MIpedia, my roommate did the [[Call of Duty 2]] page. MIpedia Wiki will provide a area for the Guild members of Malus Imperium to acquire and share information about the Guild and different online games. As the Guild and the game evolves, MIpedia will have much more user information. That is, if the members of the Guild and gaming community keep the Wiki updated.

phinneyt this person made significant contributions to four different areas within wikipedia. All were related to the field of accounting and seemed to add quality and clarification. This person clarified existing information regarding CPA's and made it more comprehendable at least for me. Also, this person expanded some pages that were lacking substance.
phinneyt This person, which happens to be myself, has thought of an excellent idea. I first considered several things before starting the Wiki assignemnt. The thought proocess that I went through prior to selecting a topic included: what would most benefit myself and others simultaneously. I decided that getting involved with a pool of information that tied to my major (accounting) would satisfy both goals. First, I would be learning more about things that pertain to my area of study. Second, I would be able to benefit others by adding quality information on something that I have been educated on for three years. To expound on the latter, I wouldn't be junking a page with things that I know nothing about. This is an important concept. Specialization is what makes the world go 'round. I could have blogged along about making saurkraut, however, the user may have ended up with chocolate chip cookies based on my lack of expertise. Often users of Wikepedia are seeking an understanding. When I looked at several of the accounting pages, they appeared to be quite base. I attempted to flesh things out with explanation. I thought that the future user was not likely going to be the partner for PriceWaterhouseCoopers but an accounting student, like myself, seeking clarification. I considered audience, and feel that this has added value.

I hope that this information that I have posted will help others in the future even if they simply look at it for a second or two. Sandowt Even though this is my own user talk page, and not that of the person I am nominating, I used my user talk page to justify the reason why I am nominating this individual. This individual is one of my mentors, and I belive they did an over and above job mentoring me. There was a significant error that I made while accounting for my contributions to the wiki, and my mentor caught it and provided me assisance for the right way of citing my contributions. This goes to show they took the time and did a thorough job in being a mentor and their work should get acknowledged. Their contributions added value, becasue of the effort and help they put into making the wiki a more valuable place by making sure the links were correct, instead of not saying anything about the error at all.

That way other people will have a good idea what to do. I feel this person's wiki contributions have added real value to a publicity availabe wiki because I thought this person is a good editor, plus she cleaned up and edited a few entries, and made a suggestion in the Student Tips.
schaechm This person was letting other students know that he would be available to study together so that overwhelmed students would not feel so alone. His contributions consist of times and places he will be available to help. He may not have done much to the Wiki overall, but he has offered alot of himself outside of class. He was willing to give out his email so that others would have an extra resource to use to succeed in this class. He not only wants to help current students, but he is also planning on helping future students.

I feel that it is not always easy to find information about local events. Sometime the event is to small to be advertised. Creating a wiki about your house and the events that are going is a good way to get your information out. It makes it easier to find what your looking for.

I feel this is a great idea for people needing to take business classes. This can make a real difference in the courses people take. there does need to be people to contribute information about the classes in this advise forum.
Shimerb What hasn't this person done? My main reason for nominating them is because of their contribution to the lecture notes...very helpful! You can tell by all the empty seats that not everyone goes to monday night lecture and so the notes on what happened can keep you from falling behind.
shimerb They added information to a number of BA271 wiki pages, like lecture notes and such. They also added Bandon, OR to WikiTravel. The lecture notes are helful because they help people like me that have a difficult time taking notes and paying attention to the lecture at the same time.

This is very helpful especially for those who didn't attend class that day. The ability to post notes is very important because sometimes you can't make it to class. You can look on the wiki to look over the notes, so you don't get behind.

Seeing Adam's contributions has made me regret my inability to add more substance to the Wiki.
steilins Steilins wrote an extensive article about Hong Kong, China. This article included places to go and visit, good things to know and reasons why to study abroad there. This is especially important for anyone who is interested in studying abroad in Hong Kong. The University tries so hard to get students with experience to connect with students who are planning to study abroad and this wiki provides the information at the interested students demand. It is also written in a format that allows other students to add their experiences.
twohyd This person made contribution to a wiki cookbook. In it they pur in different spanish cooking ideas. Not only the recipies but also information and backround on the food culture. The wiki is very well set up. Not only does it give alot of information but it is also set up in a a way that its very easy for the person to navigate. There are lots of great link in the writing itself along with in the formating.

This person has a background of information and has done a really good job adding enough informtion to inform and help students. He has created pages for the HTML, JAVA, and DHTML. They are informative and can help all students in their work. It is also helpful to those who do not understand the subjects and need to learn more.
Wuestm This person added content to the Wikipedia's Guide Dog Page. They created a whole section dedicated to accessibility of guide dogs. She included laws found through out different countries. I feel that this person added real value to a publicly available wiki because I think accessibilty of guide dogs should be included in Wikipedia's guide dog page. This is important information, and I am suprised that the original creator of the guide dog page did not think to include this. I think this person came up with an original idea and that her contributions will benefit many people in the future who are seeking information on guide dogs.
