Course
Objective: Develop, understand and apply fundamental concepts and methods of
corporate financial management. This
includes financial planning and analysis, capital budgeting, capital structure and
working capital management.
Required
Materials:
Packet: Available at the OSU bookstore: learning
objectives, lecture outlines, and handout problems.
Text: Financial Management,
Preliminary Edition, Raymond Brooks.
Grading:
Course grades will be determined from a total of 295 (+ in-class exercises)
points:
·
3 exams: 175 points (see schedule). The exams will focus on material
from the previous section, but are necessarily comprehensive. Exams consist of calculations, short answers,
and an occasional multiple choice problem.
Exam questions will be based on material in the packet, and
lecture. One, two-sided, handwritten, 8.5" x 11" sheet
of notes will be allowed during exams #1 and #2. Two, two-sided, handwritten, 8.5" x 11" sheets of notes will be allowed
during exam #3, and the final exam. A
calculator capable of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and
exponents is recommended for exams and the final exam. Financial calculators are allowed, but not
necessary.
·
45 points: 2 spreadsheet assignments (see schedule). These assignments will be available on the
class website at least one week before the due date.
·
75 points: comprehensive final exam.
(25, 3 point multiple choice problems).
·
Frequently, 5 point, in-class exercises will be assigned. These problems will be completed and
handed-in during class. The two lowest
scores on the in-class exercises during the term will be dropped. These exercises with solutions will be posted
on the class website shortly after the class period in which they are
assigned. These in-class exercises
increase the total available points for the class to greater than 295.
No make-up exams will be given. Under extreme circumstances, and subject to
instructor approval, additional weight may be given to the remaining exams to
compensate for a missed exam. There will
be no extra credit, additional work, or special projects offered to compensate
for poor performance on exams, assignments, or the final exam.
Exam
solutions will be posted on the class website as available.
A
file of old exams (from previous terms) is available on the class website.
Students
are encouraged to briefly scan the
assigned reading and the assigned problems before class, but the assignments
will not be collected or graded.
