GRADING:      In addition to homework and quizzes there will be two midterm exams and a comprehensive final exam. Your grade for the course will be determined on the following basis:

                                                                                       Points           Percent

                         ASSIGNMENTS and QUIZZES)                   80                 20%

                         MIDTERMS (2 @ 100 each)                      200                 50%

                         FINAL EXAM                                               120                 30%

                                     TOTAL                                            400               100%

At my discretion, I may consider class participation and other subjective course-related factors when assigning grades to students whose overall score is just below a grade cutoff point.  If you have any questions about any aspect of the grading, please speak with me as soon as possible.

Attendance is mandatory on scheduled test dates.  If you are unable to take an exam for a legitimate reason acceptable to the instructor, your remaining exams will be given additional weight proportional to the missing exam score.  This requires that you notify the instructor prior to the exam time.

HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS AND QUIZZES:  An assignment schedule is given on the next page.  Students are responsible for all materials discussed in class and for all assignments.  Classes are conducted based on the assumption that students have attempted the assigned homework.  Homework will be collected after going over answers in class and graded on the basis of problems attempted.  All homework must be prepared using an electronic spreadsheet and/or word processor.  Handwritten homework will not be accepted.  Each day’s homework assignment will be worth 3 points.  Late homework will not receive full credit. Quizzes and in-class assignments will be given on a random basis and will be worth 3 to 5 points each.  The potential score from all assignments and quizzes may exceed 80 points, however, you only need 80 points to achieve the maximum from this category to be included in the determination of the course grade. There are no make-ups for missed quizzes or in class assignments.

Tips for success:  Always read the assigned chapter in the textbook before class on the date shown on the syllabus. During class focus on understanding the discussion rather than only taking notes. Use the end of chapter self-assessment questions to review each chapter.  Attempt to do the homework yourself before you work with another student. These are the types of questions you should be able to answer once you understand the material.

Departmental policy regarding exams:

·    CALCULATORS: No programmable calculators, cell phones, head phones or computers may be used during exams.  Only departmental approved calculators will be allowed.  Currently, only simple 4 function calculators and financial calculators such as the TI BA series are approved for exam use.  The bookstore sells simple 4 function calculators for about $4.

·    NO NOTES will be allowed on exams.

·    NO EARLY FINAL EXAMS will be allowed.  An exam session will be scheduled following the regular scheduled exam time for students with exam conflicts.  Only students with a valid excuse for missing the regularly-scheduled final exam are eligible to take the make-up exam.  In other cases students will be encouraged to take the final the following term.

·    All exams (midterm and final) will be retained by the department.  Any student who fails to turn in all or part of an exam will receive an F (zero points) on the exam.

Midterm Exams: There will be two midterm exams. They will consist of multiple choice questions. Midterm exam dates are indicated on the syllabus.

You must receive prior approval from me if you will be unable to take a midterm exam. If you are excused from a midterm exam, extra weight will be placed on the final to substitute for the missed exam.

Final Exam: The final exam will be given during finals week. It will consist of multiple choice questions. If you become aware of a conflict that might cause you to miss the final exam, you should inform me immediately. Only students with a valid excuse for missing the regularly-scheduled final exam are eligible to take the make-up exam.

Extra Credit: There will be no opportunities for extra credit in this class.

Students with disabilities: If you have a learning disability that affects your ability to take a quiz or exam, and you believe your condition warrants special arrangements, please speak with me by the end of the first week of classes.

STUDENT CONDUCT: All University regulations regarding academic honesty apply to College of Business courses, e.g.,  any work copied from another student could result in an "F" grade in the course for all students involved.
