Your final resume is due on the last day that BA171 meets. You can turn your completed resume in at the end of class, or you can turn it in using the submittals box on the east end of the third floor of Bexell hall-make sure you turn it in prior to the end of the last lecture. (Please do NOT put your resume under my office door-that is NOT a secure location for assignments to be submitted). I am also available to review your resume in person-come and see me during my office hours (listed in your class syllabus). Resume RequirementsYou are encouraged to format your resume in a way that is professional and attractive. Here are some requirements and hints that will help you produce a great resume. 1. ONE PAGE MAXIMUM. A resume is a summary and must be one page and NO longer under any circumstances. Even the most senior of employees will have a one page resume. You can provide much more detail if asked in the hiring process. 2. HOLD THE REFERENCES. Don't include references with your resume--if you are asked for references you can supply them in a cover letter. 3. PERFECTION IS REQUIRED. A resume is by definition must be absolutely perfect. Spelling, grammar, conventions all must be perfect. 4. BE BRIEF. Don't get too wordy or too detailed. 5. DON'T NAME NAMES. Never include a supervisor's name/phone/etc. or any other individual names in your resume. Use business names only. 6. AVOID THE PERSONAL. You don't have to include anything that is personal or embarrassing such as why you left a job or your GPA. Include only details that are pertinent to your employment, education or experience. 7. PROVIDE EVIDENCE-NOT CLAIMS. A resume provides actual evidence of your competency. Don't make claims that are unsubstantiated, such as "Excellent with computers" or 'Work well with people." You will need to provide proof of any claims you make, such as "Certified by Microsoft in Networks." RESUME ASSISTANCEThere are two general locations of information for your resume: The Information and FAQ's page in this course web site, or at the Resume Samples link located at the top of the Information and FAQ's page. You are also encouraged to use the various campus resources listed in the Information and FAQ's page as well as any other campus resources available to help you with your resume. Your business professors will often make themselves available to review your resume.
