BA 496 - Marketing Research Practicum

Fall Quarter 2005

College of Business, Oregon State University

BA496 Fall 2005 Announcements

ÚI know you are busy, but you should check with the COB Advising office and Career Planning to look for available INTERNSHIPS. While going to Salem or Portland on a weekly basis may be tough for most students, there may be local internships of which you can take advantage. Remember, marketing works best when you can DIFFERENTIATE your product or service from your competitors, and an internship may help create or reinforce your USP.

  • The Close to the Customer (C2C) Project Internship --> apply for this internship that is focused on marketing research. More information is in this document.
  • Two research opportunities are currently available for students - a cheese manufacturing co-op on the Oregon coast and a startup firm with patented software. Contact Nikki Brown, C2C Manager at 713-8041 or by e-mail.
  • I had a recent discussion with the Director of da Vinci Days ("Corvallis Oregon's 3-day festival celebrating art, science & technology") the Executive Director of The Arc of Benton County (advocating for people with developmental disabilities) and interns appear to be a good fit for their needs. We also have talked with ODS about an internship possibility, being "comfortable" with numbers would be a plus for this internship - if you are interested in any of these, please contact Hal Koenig.
  • In the College of Engineering there are three projects that might be interviewing marketing students - Team BAJA, Formula SAE and the Solar Car Challenge. These are great opportunities to get involved and test how well you can apply your marketing knowledge.

ÚThe Fall CAREER FAIR is 18 October (Tuesday) - make sure that your resume and nice clothes are ready!

  • This is a good opportunity to utilize our Business Alumni Network (BAN). One of the things that BAN members can do is review your resume and give you tips on making it a better. Contact the COB advising office and they can put you in touch with a BAN member..

ÚCool people come to campus as part of the State Farm Visiting Fellows program of the Austin Entrepreneurship Program in Weatherford Hall - check the schedule for those that might interest you. This is a great opportunity to begin building your personal network. Finding the job that is the best match for your skills and interests is not easy - this is where your network of contacts can play a crucial role.

This page was revised and new links added above. In addition, the project schedule has been adjusted based on the discussion in class on 6 October. If you have any questions about this information, please e-mail me at the address below. Thanks, Hal
