Course
Objective: Develop, understand and apply fundamental concepts and methods of
corporate financial management. This
includes financial planning and analysis, capital budgeting, capital structure
and working capital management.
Required
Materials: Text: Financial Management, Preliminary Edition, Raymond Brooks.
Packet: Available at the OSU bookstore: learning
objectives, lecture outlines, and handout problems.
Grading:
Course grades will be determined from a total of 275 + points:
·
175 points: the best 7 of 8 quizzes, (25 points. each). Quizzes are 20 minutes long, and are during
the first half of class on most Mondays (see tentative schedule) and on
Wednesday, Jan 19. The quizzes will
focus on material from the previous week, but are necessarily
comprehensive. Quizzes consist of
calculations, short answers, and an occasional multiple choice problem.
·
25 points: spreadsheet assignment.
In the public folder by Monday, Feb 14, and due on Wed, Feb 23.
·
75 points: comprehensive final exam.
(25, 3 point multiple choice problems).
·
On most Wednesdays, 5 point, in-class homework problems will be
assigned. Normally, these problems can
be completed and handed-in during class.
The two lowest scores on the in-class exercises during the term will be
dropped. These problems with solutions will
be posted on the website shortly after the class period in which they are assigned.
These in-class exercises increase the
total available points for the class to greater than 275.
No make-up quizzes will be given. Under extreme circumstances, and subject to
instructor approval, additional weight may be given to the remaining quizzes to
compensate for a second missed quiz.
Quiz and exam questions will be based on learning objectives, packet
material, and lecture material. One, handwritten, one-sided, 8.5" x
11" sheet of notes will be allowed during quizzes. Two, handwritten,
two-sided, 8.5" x 11" sheets of notes will be allowed during the
final exam. A calculator capable of
addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and exponents is recommended
for quizzes and the final exam.
Financial calculators are allowed, but not necessary. There will be no extra credit, additional
work, or special projects offered to compensate for poor performance on
quizzes, assignments, or the final exam.
Quiz
solutions will be posted on the class website as available.
A
file of old quizzes (from previous terms) is available on the class website.
Students
are encouraged to briefly scan the
assigned reading and the assigned problems before class, but the assignments
will not be collected or graded.
