REQUIRED MATERIAL:
Text - Cross and Miller West’s Legal Environment of Business (6th
Ed.). Any additional material will be
provided in class or on the Blackboard website for this course costs. Used copies should be available at the OSU
bookstore. The publishers offers a text website at http://ele.westbuslaw.com
which includes practice quizzes for each chapter.
COURSE GOALS: Students are expected to:
1. understand the legal
environment of business including the structure and functioning of the
judicial, administrative legislative and judicial systems,
2.
apply business law concepts to business problems including tort, contract and
criminal law issues,
3.
be able to critically analyze current legal proceedings and issues and relate
them to material covered in class,
4.
analyze selected current cases and relate the rules of those cases to the
management of modern business enterprises,
5.
understand the concepts of sustainability and sustainable business practices,
6.
understand the legal implications of the ethical rules and social
responsibilities of modern business.
CLASS PREPARATION:
You
are expected to have read the materials for class meetings before the material
is presented in class. Prior to each
class a listing of the lecture topics for that day will be posted in the course
documents section of the Blackboard web site for this course. Do note - your blackboard web page will show
two BA 233 sites. The 233-001 site has your course syllabus and you grades. The
BA 233_C001 site will have the daily overheads for lectures.
COURSE QUIZZES AND FINAL EXAMINATION:
There
will be two quizzes and three objective examinations in this course, including
the final exam. The quizzes are worth 5%
each, the first test is worth 20% of your grade, the second exam is 30% and the
final is 40%. The final will be a
comprehensive objective examination. You
will be permitted to bring one hand written note card for use on the final exam
only.
GRADING:
The
final grade will be based on a plus and minus scale. For example, 80% to 82% is a B-, 83% to 87%
is a B and 88% and 89% is a B+. Partial
percentage scores will be rounded up if they the .6% level. No curve will be employed in this course and
no extra credit work will be accepted.

with accommodations approved by the Services for Students with Disabilities
Office are responsible for contacting the instructor prior to or during the
first week of classes to discuss accommodations.
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:
Academic
dishonesty is using another’s work or aiding someone in doing so. Any academic dishonesty will be dealt with as
per the rules stated in the Student Handbook.

realize you are having a problem. Do stop by the office to discuss the matter.

the quarter.
