BA567: Innovation Management (Course Description; Spring, 2005)
Innovation Management is a new graduate course designed for students in the MBA program, the Sloan Professional Master’s Program, and other OSU graduate programs. It is designed to prepare the graduate for leadership roles in the innovation process. The purpose of the course is to review dimensions and conceptual underpinnings of the innovation system, study concepts and principles for managing this system, and practice application to actual organizational innovation processes leading to new ventures.
Topics include scientific research, technology development, product development, intellectual property management, management of scientists and engineers, business assessment based on the triple-bottom-line, and actual commercialization of products and services. The course includes selected readings, cases, guest speakers, and analyses of emerging technologies. All assignments are designed to develop management skills required for the graduate to contribute to real innovations in real organizations.
Prerequisites: Graduate standing in the MBA Program or Sloan Professional Master’s Program.
