Colloquium Series
Due to the rapid developments in the Information Systems field the MIS
faculty has decided to bring in industry members to speak and discuss current
events relevant to the field. The colloquium series' goal is to provide for
periodic presentation and discussion of trends and developments in the MIS
field, in an intellectual atmosphere that supports critical thinking and
discourse among faculty and students.
The BA273 series can be taken for credit after attending ten meetings. The
meetings are however open to anyone who wishes to attend and open discussion
follows the presentations. For further information please see
the course syllabus.

Course Syllabus
About this course
BA273's goal is to provide for periodic presentation and discussion of trends
and developments in the MIS field, in an intellectual atmosphere that supports
critical thinking and discourse among faculty and students.
Who Should Take This Course
The meetings are open to anyone who wants to attend -- we want an open dialog
about each session's topic. Students who attend ten of the meetings and write
a short paper summarizing what they've learned are welcome to register for the
one hour of pass/no-pass credit in the term that they plan to attend the tenth
colloquium.
As of Fall term 2004, this course is a required part of the Management
Information Systems (MIS) option within the College of Business. However
because it is a new requirement, students who declared their intention to earn
an MIS option prior to Fall 2004 can graduate without taking the course.
However, since we believe the course will add a lively new dimension to the
MIS option, we are encouraging all existing students to attend the meetings
and complete the course requirements.
Learning Outcomes Students learn about trends and developments in the
MIS field and gain from an intellectual atmosphere that supports critical
thinking and discourse among faculty, colleagues from industry and students.
Assessment Criteria
To obtain credit for this one-credit pass/no pass course, students must
register for the class in the term during which they accumulate an attendance
record of at least ten colloquia. The colloquia must all have been attended in
the most recent three academic years. Sign-in sheets will be made available at
each presentation, field trip, or other event.
Grading
This is a pass/no-pass course.
