Students are expected to: 1)
acquire an understanding of the legal environment of business including the
structure and functioning of the judicial, legislative and administrative
systems; 2) develop an ability to apply business law concepts to business
problems including contract, torts and criminal law issues; 3) develop and
ability to critically analyze current legal proceedings and issues and relate
them to the material covered in the course; 4) develop and ability to analyze
selected current cases and relate the rules of those cases to the management of
modern business enterprises; 5) acquire and understanding of sustainability and
sustainable business practices; 6) develop and understanding of the legal

You are expected to do the
assigned readings before the class for which they are assigned. You should be
prepared to discuss the questions presented at the beginning of each chapter.
Prior to each class a listing to the lecture topics for that day will be posted
in the course documents section of the blackboard web site for this course.
(BA230-001) Your quiz scores and any other announcements for the course will be
posted at that site.
Weekly Quizzes: there will be
nine quizzes in this course. The quizzes will be objective - normally a blend
of true and false and multiple choice questions. The two lowest quizzes will be
automatically dropped from the calculations of your final grade, hence there
will be no make ups offered for missed quizzes. These quizzes will be 70% of
your final course grade.
Final Exam: the final will be
objective and comprehensive - questions will be similar to those seen on the
quizzes. The final will be worth 30% of course grade. You are permitted to
bring one 4 inch by 6 inch note card for use at the final. The note cards must
be signed and submitted with your final examination.
This course will be grade on
a plus/minus scale. For example, an 82% is a B-, 88% is a B+ and anything in
between is a B. There will be no curve applied to this course. While I do round
up partial if it is .6% or above under no circumstances will a final grade be rounded up to a grade that was not attained on either the
quizzes or final exam component of the course.
Any case of academic
dishonesty will result in an F for the course. This action is allowed by
Academic Regulations and Procedures as described in the schedule of classes. If
you have any doubt concerning their meaning and interpretation, ask for an explanation.
